Overgangssko barna trenger både vår og høst

Slippery grounds, cold in the morning and warm during the day. What should the little ones have on their feet that can keep them both dry and warm in such a changing climate? Dressing tired toddlers is by no means easy, but the transition seasons offers a little extra headache for us parents. Winter shoes often get too hot, but summer shoes fall short due to heavy rainfall and slippery grounds. Here you can read our tips for choosing the best in between season shoes that last longer than one season.

In the spring and fall there are mainly two types of shoes the kids should have: rubber boots and semi-high shoes with GORE-TEX membrane:

Rubber boots:

On days with heavy rainfall, one rarely makes the mistake of choosing a pair of rubber boots. There are some things to keep in mind though:

  • Check the sole. Make sure it does not bend in the middle when you twist the boot and that it provides a good grip on the surface. Many rubber boots are very slippery underneath, which is unfortunate for toddlers who aren’t exactly known for adapting their speed to the conditions.
  • On the coldest days, it is advisable to choose a lined rubber boot or a type of lining, as wool socks often are not enough.
  • Look for a model that is not too easy to kick off. Rubber boots, after all, work best when their on the feet.

Semi-high shoes with GORE-TEX

These shoes are extended to right above the ankle. They sit firmly on the foot and are waterproof. The GORE-TEX membrane ensures that junior stays dry on the feet all through the day, while also making sure they breathe properly.

Unlike summer shoes, in between season shoes are made of a more robust material. When buying semi-high shoes, consider the following:

  • Calculate some growth allowance as you do when purchase summer shoes, on approximately one centimeter.
  • Make sure to choose lightweight shoes, otherwise, your child will prefer light but cold summer shoes instead.
  • Perform the same check on the soles as you did on the rubber boots.
  • Make sure to choose shoes that is made out of a sturdy material. Feel free to choose options that are reinforced on the shoe top and heel as these areas experience a lot of wear out and tear.
  • Choose a type of shoe that is easy to maintain. The shoes should be machine washable – this you will see in the washing instructions.
