Did you think thermo boots were just for sleet and weather conditions around the freezing point? You are not alone. It is a well-kept secret that they are extremely practical in the winter cold. In fact, they keep the feet warm down to – 20 to - 30 degrees Celsius. Viking Thermo is a series of winter boots for children; here we will look more closely at the similarities and differences between the different models.

There are several Viking Thermo boots to choose from. They are all are waterproof, durable and with great insulating features. They are lightweight, have no seams or joints that can leak, stay soft and comfortable in strong cold and do not crack. Before we talk about what characterizes the different models, it may be okay to say something about why the thermo boots cope with the cold so well.

Here you can find more of our winter models for kids

Viking Thermo: Warm and waterproof winter boots

Viking Thermo boots for kids keeps the feet warm all the way down from - 20 to - 30 degrees Celsius, depending on the model. How's that possible? Well, the material the thermo boot is made of, polyurethane contains millions of tiny air bubbles. These bubbles provide superior insulation and make the boots very lightweight.

When we make the lining out of a fur and polyester mix, we get a boot that keeps the kid's feet warm, dry and happy in both sleet and bitterly cold weather.

Even with these excellent cold properties, the Thermo boot is an all-weather boot. The boot is ideal to use at temperatures around the zero freezing point - it is a kindergarten favorite.

How do you choose the right Viking Thermo boot for your child?

Lightweight, exclusive finish, spacious, extra insulation, snow protection or a combination; there is a Viking Thermo boot for every need.

Nordlys Suede-with leather – and textile shaft

Nordlys is an exclusive winter boot with leather or textile shaft (top), and lacing. It has removable socks in wool blend, which can easily be dried if they get wet. You can use the sock as a separate sock or slipper too. Due to the materials on the top, you get a softer handle than the other models, and you can adjust the width. Elastic laces with Snap-Lock make it easy to get the boot to sit firmly on the foot. Nordlys is a boot with many great features.

Viking Thermo Extreme is packed with smart details, and is perfect for kids with narrow feet. Extreme is the model that have the most narrow shape of all Vikings Thermo boots. The boot is made with a cuff-lock at the top shaft to tighten the boot. This makes sure snow will not access the boots.

The outer sole have great non-slip properties. Part of the boot is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). This is slightly heavier material than polyurethane but in return, it gives great grip and durability.

Extreme is approved by the German organization TÜV SÜD, which inspects products and issues product certifications in safety and sustainability. The boot is proven and popular winter classic that is perfect in wet, snowy or cold conditions.

Heat insulating polyurethane

The professional terminology we use for Viking Termo boots is actually PU boots. PU is an abbreviation for polyurethane, a plastic with very special heat insulating properties. Viking uses Elastopan® in its Thermo boots. It is high quality PU from German BASF, which stays soft even when it is cold.

Many other thermo boots are made of PVC materials. They are cheap to produce, but insulates poorly. A PVC boot can also become stiff and uncomfortable on the foot when it gets especially cold - in fact, it can crack from the cold. PVC is also not good for the nature. Therefore, Viking only uses Elastopan® in their Thermo boots.
